Desktop Management
LANsurveyor allows you to closely monitor and manage other computers across the network, saving you time and precious resources.
This tutorial covers several management operations:
First Step
Use the map you created in Draw Your Network Map or create a new map that includes all your Neon Responders. Make sure you select the Neon Responder option in the TCP/IP services section of the Create New Network Map dialog box.

Shut Down or Restart
You can use LANsurveyor to shut-down and restart remote machines, allowing you to complete software installations remotely or shut down computers as needed.
Click on the Manage Icon and select Shutdown or Restart from the dialog box or select either Shut Down or Restart from the Manage menu.
Any computers already selected on the map will be checked. To select all Neon Responders, click on the check box next to "Neon Responder Nodes" or select any Neon Responder node and click Next.

LANsurveyor displays the Schedule step of the wizard. Tell LANsurveyor when you want to shut down or restart: now or at a scheduled time. Pick "now", and LANsurveyor will restart or shut down each of the selected computers immediately.
Send File or Folder
Schedule file and folder distribution, remotely and easily. The distribution process is simple and automated, ideal for upgrading applications or distributing software updates.
Click on the Manage Icon and select Send a File or Send a Folder from the dialog box or select the option from the Manage menu.
Any computers already selected on the map will be checked. To select all Neon Responders, click on the check box next to "Neon Responder Nodes" or select any Neon Responder node and click Next.

LANsurveyor displays the file or folder selection portion of the wizard. Select the file or folder you wish to send and the destination, then click Next. If you are upgrading your Neon Responder software, select Neon Responder as the destination.

LANsurveyor displays the Schedule step of the wizard. Tell LANsurveyor when you want to send the data: now or at a scheduled time. Pick "now", and LANsurveyor will send the data to each of the selected computers immediately.
Send an Instant Message
Communicate immediately through LANsurveyor to any and all Neon Responder-enabled nodes.
Click on the Manage Icon and select Send a Message from the dialog box or select the option from the Manage menu.
Any computers already selected on the map will be checked. To select all Neon Responders, click on the check box next to "Neon Responder Nodes" or select any Neon Responder node and click Next.

Enter the text of the message you want to send and click Next.

You can choose to send the message immediately or schedule the message for a later time. The message is then displayed on the other computers.
Store Notes
LANsurveyor allows you to store information in up to 10 customized note fields on client computers. Information such as asset tag numbers, email addresses, department, and telephone extensions can be stored and then used in reports or simple queries.
To define the fields, select Options from the Tools menu and then click on the Note Labels tab.

To store notes on the client computers, click on the Manage Icon and select Store Notes from the dialog box or select the option from the Manage menu.
Any computers already selected on the map will be checked. Select all Neon Responder node(s) you want to store notes on and click Next.
Enter the notes you would like to store on the node and click Next.

You can choose to store the notes immediately or schedule it for a later time.
Quit Process
Quit software applications remotely to solve system problems or aid in remote software installations. Quit Process is only available when selecting a single node.
Click on the Manage Icon and select Quit Process from the dialog box or select the option from the Manage menu.
Select the Neon Responder node with the process you want to terminate and click Next. If you have more than one node selected, LANsurveyor will prompt you to select only one node.

LANsurveyor scans the node and displays a list of running processes. Click on the process you wish to terminate and click Next.

You can choose to quit the process now or schedule it for a later time.
Launch Application
Launch software applications to assist with software installations and troubleshooting. Launch Application is only available when selecting a single node.
Click on the Manage Icon and select Launch Application from the dialog box or select the option from the Manage menu.
Select the Neon Responder node with the application you want to launch and click Next. If you have more than one node selected, LANsurveyor will prompt you to select only one node.

LANsurveyor scans the node and displays a list of applications. Click on the application you wish to launch and click Next.

You can choose to run the application now or schedule it for a later time. |
