LANsurveyor includes a license for Neon Responders. Neon Responders allow your copy of LANsurveyor to communicate with and get access to other computers on your network.

When you use LANsurveyor with Neon Responders, you get:

  • More complete and accurate maps
  • Complete Asset Management
    • Hardware Inventory Reports
    • Software Inventory Reports
  • File/folder distribution
  • Instant messages
  • Remote shut down and restart
  • Remote application quit and launch

Click here for more information on Neon Responders.

There are different procedures for installing Neon Responders on computers with different operating systems:

Mac OS X

Open your LANsurveyor application folder and then open the "OS X" folder. (This folder is called "Neon Responder for OS X" in the released version and "Install This On OS X Systems" in the trial version.) Notice the file "Please Read Me" - this one is worth reading since it outlines key differences between Mac OS X and Mac OS 7-9 systems.

This folder also contains the two required components for installation: the Responder OS X Installer application and the OS X Installer Data folder. Make these two items available to every destination Mac OS X computer. This can be done by copying the files directly to each computer or by putting the files on a central file server that can be accessed by each computer.

Double-click on the Installer application to install and start running the Neon Responder for OS X.

Mac OS 8 and 9

The Neon Responder for Mac OS is a Mac OS Extension. Open your LANsurveyor folder and then open the "Mac OS" folder. (This folder is called "Neon Responder for Mac OS" in the released version and "Install This On Mac OS Systems" in the trial version.)

Installation is easy: simply copy the "Neon Responder" Extension to the Extensions folder on each remote Mac OS user's computer and then restart those computers.

Windows (95/98/Me and NT/2000/XP)

These instructions work for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. Installation is different for the trial version and the release version.

LANsurveyor Trial Instructions

Open your LANsurveyor Demo folder and then open the "Install This On Windows Systems" folder.

Unzip the "NeonResponderx.y.zip" file using WinZip or other expander. Transfer the contents of the zip file to your Windows computers.

For each Windows computer, double-click on "setup.exe" to launch the installer and then restart.

LANsurveyor Release Instructions

Insert the LANsurveyor CD-ROM into each of your Windows computers. The CD-ROM will automatically launch the installer.

Or, transfer the installer files from the CD-ROM or the LANsurveyor installation directory on your Macintosh to a shared location on your network where Windows users can access these files. Double-click on "setup.exe" to launch the installer and then restart.
